Business Continuity Tip
When Lightning Strikes

Summer is the peak season for one of the nation's deadliest weather phenomena – lightning. In the United States, an average of 53 people are killed each year by lightning, and hundreds more are severely injured. Agility has assembled the following resources to help prepare both your employees and your business.

  • Lightning Safety – Educate employees, friends and family on the dangers associated with strong thunderstorms and lightning. Click here for helpful information on what you can do before, during and after the storm.
  • Lightning Protection System – Install a lightning protection system (otherwise known as a “lightning rod”) to protecting your building and other assets.
  • Surge Protectors – To protect your electrical equipment, UL-listed surge arrestors should be installed on the main electrical service panel, as well as incoming phone, cable, satellite and data lines.

With great pride, I presented an award to Sue Balas this month for her 10th anniversary with the company. Sue does all of our accounting and has been a blessing for our company. She is an amazing mother and I’m happy that she shares some of her time with us as well. Next month, she and her husband Tom will be headed to Key West for a weekend getaway courtesy of Network Innovations – a well-deserved reward! Congratulations Sue!

A great staff is the hallmark of any successful company, and I’m very proud of ours. Our small staff of 8 has a combined 77 years working for Network Innovations. I’ve been very lucky that these great people have come and chosen to stay!

The wise and venerable desktop

When you think about the computing devices you’ll be using in the future, desktop PCs probably don’t come to mind. Sure, your very first computer was a desktop and they’ve been around forever, but surely the convenience and popularity of tablets, smartphones and notebooks are signalling the desktop’s demise.

Or are they?

Turns out desktop PCs aren’t going the way of the VCR just yet. Yes, smaller devices are more convenient and useful in many situations, but the desktop has its place, too. Instead of replacing desktops as primary computers, many are finding that the smaller, portable devices are more effective when they’re used to supplement a more powerful, stationary desktop. It seems that desktop PCs aren’t going anywhere—but their role is changing.

Safely Using Airport Wi-Fi
used with permission from Norton by Symantec

Heading out of town to visit relatives during the Holidays is as traditional as turkey dinners, electronic gifts, mistletoe, and snowmen. But what many people do not look forward to is the hustle, bustle, and time-consuming activity of actually heading into, through, and out of airports. This year, more than ever, millions of travelers will be using the public Wi-Fi systems available at municipal and International airports around the world. You may be one of them. With your handheld device, your laptop, or your tablet computer, you’ll be checking on your flights, sending out email, or maybe even working on that report that you promised your boss by January 3rd. But how safe is the airport’s wireless security?  How do you protect yourself – and your private information - from identity theft, fraud, and other cybercrimes?
